To obtain the Advanced Open Water Certification, you must achieve five adventure dives. Underwater Navigation and Deep Dive are mandatory; however, you can choose three others specialties that interest you. There are more that ten different options, however we highly recommend the night dive, wreck dive, naturalist, Fish ID and Peak Performance Buoyancy.
Obtaining an Advanced Open Water Diver certification involves the following key steps:
1.- Complete theory lessons. Read a manual or complete online learning modules covering advanced diving concepts, including: dive planning, navigation, deep diving and environmental awareness.
2.- Select Specialty dives. Choose at least five adventure dives. As we said, deep dive and underwater navigation are mandatory but the other three adventure dives can be chosen based on your interests.
3.- Participate in Dives. Complete the required dives under the supervision of a certified instructor: One deep dive (below 18 meters/60 feet), one navigation dive and three additional specialty dives of your choice.
4.- Review and Debrief. After each dive, participate in a debriefing session to review what you learned and any skills practiced.
5. Pass Assessments. Successfully complete any required skills assessments or quizzes related to the theory and practical components of the course.
6.- Receive certification. Upon completion of all dives and assessments, you will receive your Advanced Open Water Diver certification and you will be ready to dive in Cozumel!
After completing the Advanced Open Water Course, two reef dives will be done at Cozumel.
*It is possible to complete the AOWC at Cozumel by exchanging two of the dives from the certification.
Diver Level:
Open Water Diver.
130 ft/ 40 meters.
The AOWC training will take place the first two or three days (depending on the specialties chosen). The last day we will visit two different reefs at Cozumel.
